The Beatles were at the height of their creative powers in 1967 when Lennon and McCartney delved into their childhood memories to create two of their finest songs.
Strawberry Fields Forever and Penny Lane exhibit the finest quirks of their respective writers, with the former employing Lennon’s characteristically lazy ‘horizontal’ melodic style and the latter showcasing the best of McCartney’s song-writing sleight of hand.
Although the two tunes, which were issued as a double A-side in February 1967, simply can’t be separated, we’re digging George’s sunglasses in the Strawberry Fields video so much we won’t pass down an opportunity to show it.
